Off-Grid Food Shed
Promote sustainable, year-round urban agriculture and support local food banks through community engagement and education.
The Food Shed demonstrates the potential of sustainable, community-based agriculture. Additionally, it provides educational opportunities for the public, including a virtual tour, nature therapy approaches, and various learning activities and lesson plans. It is part of the City of Brampton’s Backyard Garden Program. Operating in partnership with Brampton Fire & Emergency Services and Nature Harmony Foundation, this initiative encourages citizens to grow food locally and sustainably. The Food Shed integrates three methods of urban agriculture—aquaponics, hydroponics, and soil-based growing—into a waste-free, closed-loop system.
